What do I do?

Hi! I'm Ben Skelton, a digital creative who prides himself in creating quality, visually interesting and consistent storytelling content for brands, across a range of digital applications.

I'm a firm believer that people are sick of the purely digital. I'm also a firm believer that, given the choice, the vast majority would pick something that feels tangible and real instead - and that's the philosophy that goes into all my work.

create art, not content

I hate the concept of "creating content"

It makes it sound like you're just satiating the beast with whatever you can feed the algorithm.

95 million posts are made on Instagram each day, all in the name of "creating content". Audiences are getting ever-sicker of this growing mountain of slop.

But if the scale is so vast - how can you hope to stand out?

I approach it this way: make something that's fundamentally art first, as opposed to just a means to an end. Have the attitude that you're making something that lasts.

Your audience will thank you for it.

I make the digital feel real

"nothing floats"

My design process revolves around this (admittedly slightly ominous) concept. Beyond it sounding like a line out of a 2017 horror film, it has genuine application in my work.

What it means is that everything feels logical in it's place. Tangible textures help my work to transcend the digital medium. Logical details and human imperfections help my creative to stand out against the feed of homogeneity and generated content.

We are blessed with digital tools, but that does not mean we should ignore the analogue process.

but who am I really?

Who am I?

I was born in 2006, in Bristol (hence the accent)

I always enjoyed creative things, but I'm pretty hopeless at traditional art. Growing up naturally I gravitated towards digital creative subjects, which set me on the path towards what I do today.

The thing I love most about marketing and content production is that it allows me to dip into various orbiting passions. I enjoy photograph shoots, and then spending hours on end afterwards making them look better (and occasionally worse) in Lightroom.

I apply these interests to my passion project, Coupé Clothing. It's a brand I run which creates automotive style apparel, inspired by my love for F1 and racing in general!

I love films, and its great that I can dip into making them in various campaigns, such as the short film "The Briefcase" - which I directed, filmed and edited for our Courtside Company campaign. It was inspired by one of the greatest films, in my opinion, of all time - "Pulp Fiction" - (love the art not the artist...).

I also enjoy music. There's probably ten albums in my top 5 list - which makes sense. I also play guitar quite badly. If it interests you, this is what I'm currently listening to. >
